Andrea Mitchell is known to some of us as our neighbor, having lived for many years in Kent in an historic farm house with her husband, Alan Greenspan, former chair of the Federal Reserve Board.  She is a Board member of the volunteer Chain Bridge Road/University Terrace preservation committee.  A native of New York, she received the BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania.   As NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of MSNBC's “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” she is the network’s leading voice on U.S. foreign policy and international diplomacy.  Additionally, Mitchell reports on energy and intelligence and national security issues.  As a longtime foreign affairs correspondent, Mitchell's past assignments have included exclusive reports from North Korea, Afghanistan, the Middle East, Bosnia, Kosovo, Pakistan and Haiti. 

A pioneer in her field, Andrea Mitchell is known for her tenacity and incisive analysis as she pursues answers, interviews newsmakers, and traverses the globe to report on the State Department.  Among her many awards and honors, she has been honored for her distinguished reporting, receiving the lifetime achievement award at the 40th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, the Los Angeles Press Club’s Joseph M. Quinn Lifetime Achievement Award, The International Radio and Television Society Foundation’s Giant of Broadcasting and Electronic Arts Honor and the International Women’s Media Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.  In 2015, Mitchell was recognized by New York Women in Communications with the prestigious Matrix Award for her excellence in broadcast journalism. She won a Gracie Award for Outstanding Reporter/Correspondent in 2010.  In September 2005, Mitchell authored “Talking Back,” a memoir about her experiences as one of the first women to cover five presidents, Congress, and foreign policy.
