FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Palisades Village an assisted living facility or other communal living building?

No, we are a community of members who live at home in either Berkley, Kent, Foxhall, Palisades, Spring Valley, or Wesley Heights in the District of Columbia, and the volunteers, staff, and others who support us.

Where exactly is Palisades Village?

Palisades Village is not a precise physical location. It refers to a community of neighbors in Berkley, Kent, Foxhall, Palisades, Spring Valley, and Wesley Heights in the District of Columbia. We use the term “village” to describe a group of people who share a common goal to support each other socially, emotionally, and physically. The Palisades Village office is located in the Palisades Hub on Cathedral Avenue, NW.

Do I need to live in the Palisades neighborhood to be a member of Palisades Village?

No. Although it began in the Palisades neighborhood, the organization supports anyone aged 50 or older living in the Berkley, Foxhall, Kent, Palisades, Spring Valley, and the Wesley Heights neighborhoods of Washington, DC.

How much does it cost to join Palisades Village?

Full Membership in Palisades Village is $600 annually for an individual and $900 per household (typically spouses or partners). Full Membership entitles individuals to our core service offerings (transportation, household services, visits, errands, etc.) in addition to the many social, educational, and cultural events we hold throughout the year.

Associate Memberships are also available for neighbors of any age who are interested in joining the Village to enjoy our social and cultural events. The cost to become an Associate Member of Palisades Village is $300 per person and is tax-deductible. Please be sure to check with your tax adviser.

We offer subsidized memberships based on income and other factors.

How many members do you have?

We now have over 80 Full Members and over 200 Associate Members. Our membership count changes year-to-year.

What services do Palisades Village volunteers provide?

Some of the most common types of services our members request include transportation and shopping assistance, help with running errands, friendly visits and home maintenance projects. Palisades Village volunteers are carefully vetted for specific tasks based on their skills and experience.

Are there any services that Palisades Village volunteers cannot provide?

Yes. There are some projects that require certain expertise, tools, equipment or access to other resources that our volunteers simply do not have. Palisades Village volunteers cannot provide home health care services. When a project request is beyond the scope of what our volunteers are capable of, we will help members find a qualified provider using our extensive referral network. We have a social worker available to help find additional resources and work with members when needed.

When is the office open?

The Palisades Village office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Outside of regular office hours, you can also reach us by sending an email to info@palisadesvillage.org or by calling 202-244-3310 and leaving a message.
