THE HISTORY OF PALISADES VILLAGE

In 2007, a group of neighbors learned about the concept of a “village” that helps older adults stay in their homes as they age with the help of volunteers. They thought we should create a village in our community. Palisades Village was conceived as a non-profit organization in 2007, modeled after the Beacon Hill Village, the pioneering organization in Boston. Palisades Village officially began operations in 2009 as a 501(C)(3) with 31 members. The organization began with Palisades and Foxhall and later expanded to include Berkley, Kent, Spring Valley, and Wesley Heights. Over the years, Palisades Village has strengthened its Board of Directors and Staff and broadened its services and activities for hundreds of members.
